REFERENDUM PETITION RECEIVES SUFFICIENT SIGNATURES FOR FILING
Beverly Hills City Council to Review at July 8, 2008 Meeting

Beverly Hills, CA -- The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office has examined the referendum petition submitted by the Citizens Right to Decide Committee, and has determined that a sufficient number of valid signatures qualify the petition for filing.

On May 29, 2008, a referendum petition was submitted to the City of Beverly Hills. The petition sought to referend the Resolution passed by the City Council entitled ‘Resolution of the City of Beverly Hills Amending the General Plan to Enable the Revitalization of the Beverly Hilton Hotel Site With a New Luxury Hotel, Condominiums and Open Space’ (Resolution No. 08-R-12601).

In accordance with the Elections Code of the State of California, the County of Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder’s Office confirmed to the Secretary of State that as of May 19, 2008, there were 20,747 registered voters in the City of Beverly Hills. As such, the petition required a minimum of 2,075 signatures (10% of the registered voters in the City) to qualify for filing.

City of Beverly Hills and Beverly Hills Unified School District Continue Historic Partnership
Multi-Year Agreement Exceeds $45 Million

Beverly Hills, CA – The City of Beverly Hills will continue its long-standing partnership with the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD), offering sizable funding and a variety of critical services totaling over $45 million in a four year agreement benefiting the whole community. This new agreement represents a 20% increase over last year and also includes additional one-time funding of nearly $3 million.

Through a contractual partnership called a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA), the City provides funding to the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) for a variety of programs and services. In return, the City is provided use of a wide array of educational and recreational facilities that would otherwise not be available for City programs and services. The City and the District have benefited from this partnership for 30 years.

“The longevity of our partnership with BHUSD is a source of great pride for the City, which remains committed to working closely with the District in identifying ways to keep our schools strong,” said Mayor Barry Brucker. “It is widely acknowledged that the City’s reciprocal relationship with BHUSD is unsurpassed. As our schools and children benefit from the investment, so too do all residents who take part in City programs at BHUSD facilities. This level of commitment demonstrates the unique nature of Beverly Hills as a community investing in our future through our schools and through the programs all residents enjoy,” he added.
