City of Beverly Hills Encourages Residents to Recycle Their Christmas Trees
For Immediate Release December 22, 2008

City of Beverly Hills Encourages Residents to Recycle Their Christmas Trees

Beverly Hills, CA – Happy Holidays from the City of Beverly Hills Public Works & Transportation Department! Recycle your Christmas tree and continue the great progress the community has made in reducing solid waste.

If you have a green yard waste container, cut your tree into small pieces and place it in the container. If you do not have a green container, place the tree in the alley next to your trash can. Remember to remove the stand, ornaments and lights from the tree.

Beverly Hills’ residents have made great strides in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills. The mixed waste from the black containers is sent to a material recovery facility (MRF) where the recyclables are sorted from the refuse mixture. The yard clippings in the green containers are sent to a composting facility. The City’s decision to change to a MRF disposal site was based upon cost effectiveness and the desire to increase diversion from the landfills. The diversion rate has increased from 57% to 60%.

The Public Works Department congratulates the community for its tremendous support as a partner in conservation. Spread the word … We Recycle!
