Frank Fenton Becomes Beverly Hills Mayor Unique Honor Acknowledges Three Decades of Public Service
Beverly Hills, CA – Frank Fenton was installed as Beverly Hills’ mayor under a special succession plan, with current Mayor Barry Brucker installed as Vice Mayor. Based upon a request from Brucker, Fenton will serve as the City’s mayor from March 11, 2009 until March 25, 2009 when the new Beverly Hills City Council is sworn into office.
Mayor Fenton plans to retire from public life after more than 30 years of public service. This unique acknowledgement recognizes Mayor Fenton’s outstanding contributions to the community he loves, as well as the legacy of accomplishment he has achieved during those three decades.
Before the ceremony, current Mayor Barry Brucker said, “It has been my honor to work alongside one of the great public servants the City of Beverly Hills has ever had. For over thirty years, Frank Fenton has selflessly dedicated his life to this community. On behalf of my Council colleagues, it has been an honor for all us to serve with you. The entire community thanks you for your extraordinary service to Beverly Hills.”

Beverly Hills Rates High on Residents’ Survey Quality of Life and Municipal Services Receive Top Grades
Beverly Hills, CA - The vast majority of Beverly Hills residents say they are pleased with municipal services provided by the City, particularly police, fire and paramedic services.
In a wide-ranging telephone survey, residents responded to a series of questions gauged to determine their satisfaction with life in Beverly Hills and with the services provided by City government. Among the more significant findings: • 90% of residents rated the quality of life in the City as "excellent or good" • 91% of residents indicated satisfaction with the City's efforts in providing municipal services • Public safety services (police/fire/paramedic) received the highest levels of satisfaction and were viewed as top priorities for City spending • Preparing the City for emergencies (81%) and managing/reducing traffic congestion (74%) are high priorities for residents • 83% of households visited a park or recreation facility in the past year • 80% of residents indicated they were satisfied with the City's efforts to communicate with them • 56% of residents had been in contact with City staff in the past year

Hundreds of New California Laws Take Effect in 2009 Texting While Driving, Analog TV Are Out; Internet Voter Registration Is In
Beverly Hills, CA – More than 200 new state laws take effect on or soon after Jan.1, 2009, affecting the everyday lives of California residents. The new laws include mandating nutritional information for restaurant food, tougher penalties for drunk drivers, outlawing text messaging while driving and a requirement that property owners take charge of abandoned pets.
The following is a summary of some of the new laws that residents should be aware of: Texting While Driving - the new laws provide that a person may not "write, send or read a text based communication" while driving. The
End of Analog - Views using an antenna or “rabbit ears” to pick up television shows, will see a blank screen after midnight Feb. 17. That’s when all TV stations will stop sending out analog signals in the U.S. Cable and satellite subscribers will not be affected by the new ruling.
