It is bordered on the north by the Santa Monica Mountains, on the east by West Hollywood and the Fairfax District of the Los Angeles, on the south by Los Angeles and on the west by Westwood Village and Century City, which are Los Angeles neighborhoods and not separate cities. The New Year Will Bring New Caliber of Service to Beverly Hills Pets
Beverly Hills, CA – In early 2009, Beverly Hills residents will be provided with closer proximity to a new, state-of-the art animal shelter located in West Los Angeles. Operated by the City of Los Angeles, this new facility will enable Beverly Hills residents to locate missing pets quickly, while receiving a variety of animal care services.
Currently Beverly Hills residents must travel to the County animal shelter in Carson, California to retrieve a lost pet. In early 2009, residents will be able to be reunited with their animal at the West Los Angeles facility, located just four miles from Beverly Hills at 11361 West Pico Boulevard. This new facility will provide Beverly Hills residents with services such as animal adoption, treatment and reuniting services in the event they lose or seek a pet.
The Beverly Hills City Council and the Los Angeles City Council have both adopted measures in 2008 to enter into this contractual arrangement to improve services offered to Beverly Hills residents – and their pets. The item will be presented to the Beverly Hills City Council on December 2, 2008.

CITY OF BEVERLY HILLS PREPARES FOR DISASTER
Great ShakeOut is Largest Earthquake Drill in U.S. History
Beverly Hills, CA – The City of Beverly Hills is ready to Drop, Cover and Hold On as it prepares for the largest earthquake drill in U.S. history. On November 13, 2008 at 10a.m., Beverly Hills will join the Earthquake Country Alliance (a public-private partnership of leading earthquake and emergency professionals, government officials, business and community leaders) and millions of Southern Californians to participate in the Great Southern California ShakeOut. All residents, businesses, schools and community organizations in Beverly Hills are encouraged to participate.
The ShakeOut will portray what could happen in a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on the southern end of the San Andreas fault. City staff will be participating in the Drop, Cover and Hold On exercise at 10a.m., which will momentarily interrupt non-emergency City services. A variety of other disaster-related activities will occur throughout the day, as the City tests its response capabilities. While many employees will be involved in the exercise, normal City business will occur throughout the day.
“The City is urging all members of the community to participate in the ShakeOut to understand what to do before, during and after an earthquake,” said Pamela Mottice-Muller, Director of Emergency Management for the City of Beverly Hills. “Should a major disaster occur, emergency service workers may be overwhelmed with response demands. People need to be prepared and self-sufficient to reduce chance of injuries and even save lives,” she continued. Register for the ShakeOut at www.ShakeOut.org.
